How to write a recipe?

For this second letter to your Pen pals, you are going to write a recipe. The recipe doesn't need to be a food recipe. 

This is why on this page you will find some tips and some useful vocabulary in order to complete this task.

How to write a recipe

Parts of the recipe:

  1. Name of the recipe

  2. Ingredients (and quantities)

  3. Cooking tools

  4. Time and Level of difficulty (optional)

  5. Preparation / Method / Directions (Step by step, you can use numbers)

 

Language Tips:

  • Use the imperative or the present simple:

    • Take a carrot, peel the orange, boil the pasta...​

  • Use time linkers

    • Fir​st, then, next, after 5 minutes...

  • You can use modal verbs

    • Should/Shoudn't - Must/Mustn't - Need to/Don't need to - Can
